A Fun Corporate Team Building Activity That Turns a City Into a Problem Solving Quest

Real streets. A real story.
Real conversations that don't happen in a boardroom.

Dispatch - Overview | Experiential Edge

Activity Overview

Dispatch™ is a series of location-based company team bonding activities delivered through our own app. Teams receive a dispatch - a letter, a fragment of a story, an unresolved question - and set out on foot to solve it.

It isn't a walking tour and it isn't a treasure hunt. It's a story-led adventure through a real place, where the surroundings are the puzzle - statues, plaques, laneways, public art, an inscription almost nobody reads. The kind of detail people walk past every day without noticing.

This is the ideal option if you want a fun corporate team building activity that gets delegates out of the room and into the moment. Teams finish knowing the area, knowing each other better, and having had the kinds of conversations that only happen when people walk side by side instead of sitting across a table.

The Experience: A Corporate Team Building Activity with a Quest to Solve

Teams gather, download the app, and open their first dispatch.

Every Quest opens with a hook - a real person, a genuine local event, an unsolved question, or a "could be true" story grounded in the history of the place.

Small teams of three to six work their way through around ten locations. Depending on the Quest, they follow the story in sequence or attack the map in whatever order they choose - which is where strategy, split-second calls and a bit of healthy competition come in.

Every stop asks something:

  • What's the final word on the plaque?
  • Which direction is she facing?
  • What animal sits above the doorway?

Questions are answerable on the spot. Get it right and the next piece of the narrative arrives - a fragment of a life, a twist, a clue that only makes sense two stops later.

The Quest resolves. Teams reach the finish having covered ground, solved a mystery, and - without a single icebreaker or trust fall - worked out how to make decisions together under pressure. The best part? They'll have laughed their way through most of it.

Choose Your Quest | Experiential Edge

Choose Your Quest - Or Have One Written For You

Ready-Made

We already have corporate scavenger hunts running in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Hobart, north-west Tasmania, Darwin and the Gold Coast, with more in development. If your team is in any of these locations, we can have them on one of our Quests within days.

Custom-Designed

If your team is located somewhere else, we'll build a custom Quest just for them. Our team walks the precinct in person, finds the locations, tests the questions and writes a story that is relevant to that location. We can weave in your theme, your agenda, your values, your product, your people, your in-jokes, all of it! A custom Quest becomes an asset you own - reusable for the next intake, the next launch, or the next outdoor team building event.

Virtual

When your team is spread across locations, or when getting together outdoors is not an option, a virtual Quest brings the same story, the same puzzles and the same competition to your people - wherever they are. Remote teams solve the scavenger hunt together on screen, and the people who never share a corridor finally share something.

How It Runs | Experiential Edge

How It Runs

Fun corporate team building that can be self-directed, facilitated, or fully produced.

Self-Directed

Teams download the app and go. No facilitator, set-up, or minimum numbers required. Delegates can start from their own hotel, at their own pace, in whatever gap the program allows. The lowest-friction fun team activity in our range, and the easiest thing an organiser can add to an agenda.

Facilitated

One of our professional facilitators briefs the teams, runs live scoring, drops bonus challenges along the route, keeps the competition honest, and brings everyone back together for a proper finish. This is where Dispatch stops being an activity and starts being an experience - and where a debrief can be added if the learning outcome matters as much as the fun.

Fully Produced

Everything above, plus the additions that make people talk about it for years:

  • Hidden locations that only reveal themselves to teams paying attention.
  • Actors in character holding information no one else has.
  • Stops built into the route - a coffee house, an ice-cream parlour, a bar.
  • A finish somewhere worth arriving at: your dinner venue, your function room, your launch.
  • An invitation that arrives mid-Quest - solve the right location and the team unlocks where the night is really heading.
Dispatch - Debrief & Outcomes | Experiential Edge

The Debrief

Dispatch is a corporate scavenger hunt-style activity that was designed for genuine enjoyment; but if you want it to do more than entertain, add a facilitated debrief and we'll connect the experience back to the workplace.

Discussions link what happened on the street to real workplace dynamics:

  • How did the team decide, and who ended up deciding?
  • What happened to communication when the pressure came on?
  • Who got heard, and who quietly stopped contributing?
  • Where did competition help - and where did it cost you?

Thirty-five years of experiential learning sits behind this. We know how to change behaviour and make the day count for something - while still giving your team a truly memorable experience.

Key Outcomes: Fun Corporate Team Building That Actually Sticks

This is the perfect team building activity if you want a fun, high-energy, low-friction experience that builds connection and decision-making without anyone feeling like they've been put through a development session.

Dispatch works because it doesn't feel like development. Teams are too busy having a good time, and trying to win, to notice they're practising the things that matter.

Participants leave Dispatch™ having genuinely had to:

  • Make decisions as a group under time pressure - which way, which stop, who's calling it.
  • Find and use the strengths in the room: the observer, the navigator, the lateral thinker, the one who reads every plaque.
  • Communicate clearly when it counts, with a clock running and a wrong turn costing real minutes.
  • Include everyone - no fitness, background or seniority advantage; a graduate and a general manager contribute equally.
  • Build connection sideways, across departments, levels and locations, in a way seated sessions rarely achieve.
  • Learn the place they're in: real history, real stories, real detail.

And they move! A Quest is a comfortable one-and-a-half to three kilometre walk - enough to shake off a day of sitting, not enough to be a fitness activity.

Dispatch - Who It's For & Logistics | Experiential Edge

Who Is This Program For?

  • Conference and event organisers who need a fun activity that gets delegates into the moment, and needs no room, no AV and no bus. It runs in a two-hour break, a free afternoon, or as the bridge between the last session and the dinner.
  • Managers planning a team day who want their people outdoors, moving, laughing and solving something together - exploring, competing and problem-solving in one activity, without a single icebreaker.
  • Leaders welcoming new people who want orientation to feel like an experience rather than an induction pack. New starters, graduate intakes or relocated staff learn the area, the history and each other's names in a single morning.
  • Marketing and internal comms teams with a product, message or milestone that deserves something more than a slide. Build the Quest around it: locations reveal features, the story carries the message, and the finish is the reveal.
  • Organisations tired of forgettable team days and ready for a fun team building activity people actually talk about afterwards.

Just bring your people and a pair of comfortable shoes. We'll bring the rest.

The Logistics

Time: Most Quests take 1-2 hours at a comfortable pace. Add 30-60 minutes for a facilitated briefing and finish.

Group size: From a single small team to 1,000 participants or more. Because teams move independently through public space, Dispatch scales further than almost any other team activity - there's no room to fill and no bottleneck.

Format: Outdoors, on foot, app-led. A route of roughly 1.5-3 km, usually a loop, starting and finishing near your venue or accommodation. All locations are in or visible from public space, free to access, and available at any time of day. The exception for this is if your team is doing a Virtual Quest, which will be online.

What you need: A smartphone per team and comfortable shoes. No room, no tables, no AV, no props to set up.

Lead time: Ready-made Quests can be live in days. A custom Quest needs field reconnaissance, writing and testing.

FAQs - Corporate Team Building Activities | Experiential Edge
FAQs

About Dispatch™

Can this activity run without a facilitator?

Yes. Self-directed Dispatch Quests need nothing from you but a start time – teams download the app and go. Add a facilitator when you want live scoring, bonus challenges along the route, actors in character, hidden locations, or a debrief at the finish.

Absolutely, and it is one of the most popular things we do! A custom Dispatch Quest can carry a conference theme, a product launch, a set of organisational values or an internal campaign. A custom Quest also becomes an asset you own so it’s reusable for the next intake, the next event, or the next launch.

Yes, and it is a great way to do it. Experiential Edge designs the route to end at your venue. We can also hide the invitation inside the Quest, so teams unlock the details of the evening by solving the right location along the way. Stops at a coffee house, ice-cream parlour or bar can be built into the route as rewards or checkpoints.

Yes. Dispatch runs on the Experiential Edge app, free on iOS and Android. One phone per team is enough – there is no requirement for every participant to download it.

This is one of the most common questions asked about any outdoor activity. Options are available if it decides to rain on the day of your Quest, including a possible reschedule, indoor/arcade route variant, or the option to switch to the virtual Quest.

For a ready-made Dispatch Quest in a city Experiential Edge already covers, not long at all – we can be live within days. For a custom Quest, the earlier the better: we need to walk the route, create the Quest, and field test it before you participate. Get in touch and our team will be able to give you an estimated time frame.

The cost for Dispatch depends on a number of factors including the type of Quest – self-directed, facilitated and fully produced, as well as how many participants. Self-directed Quests are the lowest-cost corporate scavenger hunt, because there is no facilitator, no venue hire and no materials. Contact our team for a quote tailored to what you need.

Dispatch is designed to fit the gaps in a conference agenda. A self-directed Quest takes one and a half to two and a half hours, needs no room, no set-up and no transport, and delegates can start from the venue or their own hotel whenever the program allows. Add thirty to forty-five minutes for a facilitated briefing and finish. It is the lowest-friction activity and the easiest thing an organiser can add to an agenda.

Experiential Edge delivers a full suite of immersive, corporate team building workshops, designed for conferences, off-sites and corporate events across Australia. Every team faces different challenges at work, which is why every one of our experiences is designed to deliver a different outcome. Whether your goal is to lift performance, shift culture, sharpen communication or bring people back into alignment, there is an activity built for the result you are chasing.
