Corporate Team Building that shifts behaviour – not just morale

Archipelago™

Where Change and Uncertainty Collide — Adaptability Reveals Everything

A Workplace Culture Activity that Develops the Attitudes, Strategies & Skills for Dealing with Change

Real skills for leading people and teams before, during and after change.

Workshop Overview

Archipelago – All At Sea™ is a maritime-themed workplace culture activity built for teams navigating change. Small groups are marooned on a chain of idyllic but isolated islands and must develop the attitudes, strategies and skills they need to deal with the change unfolding around them. Just when they’ve created something to be proud of, everything changes again. Will your people resist, or will they reset and find a way through?

This is the ideal culture change activity for organisations who want a dynamic experience that develops people’s ability to deal with change – and equips leaders to support and guide their teams before, during and after it.

Not your standard workshop on building team cohesion, participants must work within and across teams to succeed, balancing bottom-line results with a deep commitment to shared values.

The Experience:

Delegates are welcomed aboard the luxury cruise ship Ce La Vie, invited to indulge in everything the magnificent ship has to offer. Then, without warning, the storm hits. Passengers find themselves cast adrift in tiny life rafts, buffeted by wild seas and blown ashore on isolated islands across a treacherous archipelago. The waters between the islands are impassable –  rescue, impossible.

Each marooned group must do their best with scarce resources and the people they happen to be stranded with. As the daunting reality sets in, groups face a series of tasks and challenges, and set about transforming their island refuges into something they can be proud of.

To succeed, each group must:

  • Take stock of their resources, their people and their constraints, and develop a strategy that fits the new reality.
  • Build a small community from scratch – agreeing how they’ll work together and make decisions.
  • Adapt their attitudes, strategies and skills as the conditions change and a new reality is thrust upon them.

In this immersive dealing with change activity, no sooner have groups built something they’re proud of than everything changes again, and they’re thrown back into chaos. They must dig into their reserves of resilience, creativity and collaboration to find a way forward – and this time, if they succeed, a bright new future awaits.

Making It Count: The Debrief

Archipelago is engaging, immersive and memorable, but it’s the debrief where the real value is unlocked.

During the debrief, groups receive targeted feedback on how they responded; not just on the challenges they completed, but on the attitudes, strategies and skills that shaped the way they got there.

Discussions link their performance back to real workplace realities:

  • How did the group respond when the rules changed, and what did that reveal about how they deal with change at work?
  • Which attitudes and strategies helped people embrace the change, and which ones held the group back?
  • How did leaders show up through the upheaval, and what would it take to lead like that back at the office?

We explore how participants worked with shifting dynamics, stayed focused on outcomes, and supported each other through uncertainty. The strategies and mindsets they develop become a powerful platform for dealing with change at work – and, for the leaders in the room, for guiding others through it.

Key Outcomes: Helping Teams Deal with Change

This is the perfect workplace culture activity if you want an immersive experience that develops the attitudes, strategies and skills people need to deal with change, while equipping leaders to guide their teams through it.

Participants leave Archipelago – All At Sea™ having developed key capabilities for navigating change and shaping a stronger workplace culture:

  • Attitudes that help people accept and embrace change.
  • Strategies for staying focused when the ground keeps shifting.
  • Skills for communicating openly through uncertainty.
  • Resilience, creativity and collaboration under pressure.
  • Leadership skills for guiding people through change.
  • A shared language for dealing with change at work.

The learning outcomes connect directly to the change and culture challenges your people face every day, making this experience ideal for any organisation looking to develop the way their teams, and their leaders, deal with change.

Who is this Workshop for?

  • Managers and team leaders guiding their teams through restructure, transformation or new ways of working, and looking to develop the attitudes, strategies and skills their people need to deal with change well.

“Making uncomfortable, feel comfortable”

Simon and Kirralea take the time to put you in situations that aren’t always comfortable – and that’s the whole point. You’re not paying to be comfortable; you’re paying to be developed. They know growth happens outside your comfort zone- but somehow, they still make being uncomfortable, feel comfortable.
Would highly recommend.

Simon and Kirralea brought fresh energy and real insight into how we lead, collaborate, and build culture. Their workshops went beyond theory — they created space for real conversations and practical change, tailored to the realities of working in government. I’d give them 6 stars 🌟 if I could!

FAQs

About Archipelago™

Do participants need any prior experience, fitness or prep work?

Archipelago is a workplace culture activity designed to be fully inclusive. The story may be immersive, but the experience itself isn’t physical – nothing to climb, nothing to carry, nothing technical, and nothing to read or prepare in advance. A new starter, a team leader and an executive can sit on the same island and each get equal value from the experience.

Everything runs inside your conference room – no buses, no offsite venue, no weather backups, no transfers. We bring the archipelago to you. Organisers get fewer moving parts to wrangle, and delegates don’t lose half a day in transit. of moving parts to manage. For delegates, it means no lost time in transit.

You’ll need enough space to fit a table for each marooned group of 3-5 people, with sufficient room between tables for participants to move around comfortably. We bring all the staging, props and materials – your venue just needs to provide the space, tables, chairs and AV. If you’re unsure whether your space will work, reach out to us and we’ll happily go through it with you.

Yes, and it works especially well that way. Because participants are marooned in fresh groups, Archipelago breaks down hierarchy, builds connections across departments, and gives people from different parts of the business a shared experience of dealing with change together. It’s one of the reasons it’s so popular at conferences and culture days.

Where most dealing with change workshops talk about change in the abstract, Archipelago lets people feel it. Groups develop their attitudes, strategies and skills in real time as the disruption unfolds – and then, just as they’ve found their feet, they’re disrupted again. That second wave is what makes the lessons land. It’s not a session people sit through; it’s an experience that develops how they actually deal with change, and gives them a shared language for navigating it back at work.

And you won’t find delegates stuck in their seats staring at slides. Our workshops are built around activity-based learning – fun, engaging and, above all, effective.

Yes! In fact, it’s one of the most common ways Archipelago is used. The themes it surfaces (adaptability, resilience, communication, leading through change) plug straight into transformation kick-offs, values rollouts, leadership offsites and strategy sessions, and it fits neatly into a half-day or full-day agenda. We’ll work with you to make sure it amplifies the change story you’re already telling, instead of pulling against it.

The earlier the better, especially for large groups. That said, we’ve pulled programs together at short notice before – if your event is coming up fast, get in touch and we’ll let you know what’s possible.

Archipelago is one of a full suite of immersive, activity-based corporate team building workshops we run for conferences, off-sites and events across Australia. Different teams face different challenges, so every experience is designed to deliver a different outcome – shifting culture, dealing with change, lifting performance, sharpening communication or bringing people back into alignment. Whatever result you’re chasing, there’s an activity built for it.
